Early Life and Faith

Anne Line was born into a Calvinist family in England, her father being William Heigham.However, her family later converted to Catholicism, a decision that influenced Anne's life profoundly.

Marriage and Exile

In 1586, Anne married Roger Line, a devout Catholic.However, due to religious persecution during the English Reformation, Roger was forced to flee the country. He died in exile in 1594, leaving Anne widowed.

Helping the Persecuted

After her husband's death, Anne dedicated herself to aiding priests and other Catholics who were forced to practice their faith in secret.She became involved in an underground network that helped organize the escape of Jesuit priest John Gerard from the Tower of London. As a result of her involvement, she was forced to go into hiding.

Arrest and Execution

On February 2, 1601, Anne Line was arrested.She was accused of treason and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on February 27, 1601.

Canonization and Legacy

Anne Line was beatified by Pope Pius XI on December 15, 1929.She was later canonized as a saint by Pope Paul VI on October 25, 1970, along with a group of other English and Welsh martyrs. Her feast day in the Catholic Church is February 27.
