Early Life and Education

Anneli Ott was born and raised in Estonia, where she attended Parksepa Secondary School in Võru County. She graduated high school in 1994 and went on to pursue her higher education at Tallinn University's Faculty of Physical Education. In 1999, she obtained a degree in Movement and Sport, and in 2000, she received additional training in Pedagogy.

Early Political Involvements

Ott's political journey began in 2005 when she joined the Estonian People's Union. She was elected to the Lasva Parish Council as the party's chairperson during the local government elections. In 2009, she became the Mayor of Võru, a position she held until 2010.

Joining the Social Democratic Party and Centroist Party

Ott briefly aligned herself with the Social Democratic Party of Estonia from August 2009 to April 2011. However, she subsequently joined the Centroist Party on April 25, 2011, and has served as the head of the party's Võrumaa branch.

Local Government Roles

From 2010 to 2015, Ott served as a member of the Võru City Assembly. She took on the role of Chairman of the Assembly from 2014 to 2015. Additionally, she held the position of Deputy Mayor of the Nõmme District in Tallinn from 2011 to 2014.

Elections and Parliamentary Career

Ott contested the 2015 Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament) elections as a member of the Centroist Party. While she initially failed to secure a seat, she became a reserve member for Priit Toobal on November 19, 2015. She served as a deputy for the Corruption Prevention Special Committee. In the 2019 elections, she was successfully elected as a member of the 14th Riigikogu, representing the electoral district of Võru, Valga, and Põlva. She chaired the European Union Affairs Committee during her tenure.

Ministerial Appointments

From November 25, 2020, to January 26, 2021, Ott served as the Minister of Public Administration in the second government of Jüri Ratas. She subsequently became the Minister of Culture in the government of Kaja Kallas from January 26, 2021, to November 2, 2021. She resigned from this position amidst a vaccination scandal, being the only unvaccinated minister in the government.
