Early Career and Youth Teams
Anthony Obodai, a Ghanaian footballer, began his journey in the youth system of Ghanaian club Adelaide. He then spent three years with Liberty Professionals, also in Ghana, from 1998 to 2001.
Move to the Netherlands and Ajax Debut
In 2001, Obodai made a significant move to Europe, signing with Dutch giants Ajax. However, he did not make his Eredivisie debut until November 2003, following a loan spell at Belgian club Germinal Beerschot.
Brief Stint at Ajax
Despite his initial debut, Obodai struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for Ajax. He played a total of 29 matches and scored two goals in his two years with the club. His time at Ajax was also marred by a serious injury sustained in the Champions League against AC Milan.
Departure from Ajax and Transfer to Sparta Rotterdam
In 2005, Obodai left Ajax and joined Sparta Rotterdam. He featured prominently in his first season, making 28 appearances and scoring once. However, his involvement decreased in the following campaign, and he expressed his desire to leave the club.
Move to FC Waalwijk and Retirement
In January 2007, Obodai secured a move to FC Waalwijk, signing a contract that ran until 2009. He continued to play professionally for a few more years before eventually retiring from football.
