Metropolitan Anthony of Novgorod: Born into a family of rural priests, Metropolitan Anthony began his religious education at the Uniate spiritual school of the Verkhoyetsky Vasylian monastery. Priesthood and Theological Appointments
Priest and Seminary Teacher: In 1809, Anthony graduated from the Volyn Seminary and was appointed as a teacher of poetry in the lower grades. He was ordained as a priest the same year and elevated to the rank of archpriest in 1813.
Economy Manager and Cathedral Priest: In 1815, Anthony was relieved of his teaching duties but retained as the seminary's economy manager and administrator of the archpriest's house. He was also appointed cathedral archpriest, a member of the consistory, and a dean in 1818.

Monastic Vocation and Archimandrite: In 1821, Anthony became a widower. A decade later, in 1831, he became a chaplain at the Kremenets Lyceum. On November 20, 1832, he took monastic vows and was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.
Administrator of Pochueva Lavra: In 1833, Anthony was appointed as deputy to the abbot of the Pochueva Lavra, which had recently converted from Uniatism to Orthodoxy. His efforts to promote the conversion of Uniates to Orthodoxy earned him the attention of the military governor of Podolia and Volyn, Yakov Potyomkin, and the governor-general, Vasily Levashov.
Bishop of Warsaw: On July 8, 1834, Anthony was consecrated as Bishop of Warsaw, vicar of the Volyn diocese. In 1840, the vicariate was elevated to an independent diocese, and Anthony was elevated to the rank of archbishop.
Metropolitan of Novgorod
Appointment to Novgorod: On January 17, 1843, the day of his name day, Anthony was appointed as Metropolitan of Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, Estonia, and Finland.
