Biography of Anthony Stewart Head
Anthony Stewart Head is a British actor and musician who gained fame in the United States for his role as Rupert Giles, the watcher of Buffy Summers in the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". He moved to the States after becoming known as the "coffee gentleman" in a long-running Nescafé Gold Blend advertising campaign, which hindered him from getting serious roles in his homeland.

Early Life and Family
Anthony Stewart Head was born on February 20, 1954, in Camden Town, London. His father, Seafield Head, was a documentary film director and the founder of Verity Films, and his mother, Helen Shingler, was an actress. They married in 1944. His older brother, Murray Head, is also an actor and singer. Both brothers played the role of Freddy Trumper in the musical "Chess" at the Prince Edward Theatre in London, despite the eight-year age difference. Murray was part of the original cast in 1986, while Anthony played the role in the final cast in 1989.
Personal Life
Anthony Stewart Head currently resides near Bath, Somerset, with his long-time partner Sarah Fisher, an animal behavior specialist, and their two daughters, Emily and Daisy. Both Emily (22 years old) and Daisy (19 years old) have started their own acting careers. He also has a house in Los Angeles. In September 2010, during the British cooking show "Saturday Kitchen Live", Head revealed that he is a pescetarian, meaning he does not eat meat from warm-blooded animals and prefers fish and seafood.
Career
Head graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He made his theater debut in the musical "Godspell" in 1971, which led to television roles on both BBC and ITV. One of his notable early works was the ITV television series "Enemy at the Door" from 1978 to 1980.
In the early 1980s, Anthony was the lead vocalist for the band "Red Box". By the late 1980s, he appeared alongside Sharon Maughan in the Nescafé Gold Blend advertising campaign, consisting of 12 interconnected commercials. This "coffee opera" brought him widespread recognition but limited his access to serious dramatic roles.
His success on stage and some small roles on American television helped him secure the role in the popular supernatural series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", joining the main cast in 1997. Although his family remained in the United Kingdom, Anthony had to move to the United States for the role. He remained in the main cast until the sixth season and then transitioned into a recurring guest star, making occasional appearances in the show. In interviews, he reassured fans that he wanted to spend more time with his family, as he spent most of the year outside the United Kingdom, and his younger daughter grew up without him.
After "Buffy", Anthony Stewart Head's career flourished. He appeared in the comedy series "Manchild", the crime drama "Silent Witness", the satirical sketch show "Little Britain" (where he played the Prime Minister), and the popular sci-fi series "Doctor Who". Currently, he portrays Uther Pendragon in the fantasy series "Merlin".
In addition to his television work, Head released a collaborative album with musician George Sarah titled "Music for Elevators". He is also set to appear in a screen adaptation of Shakespeare's play "Macbeth", portraying Duncan, the Scottish king.
