Biography of Anton Kochinyan
Anton Yervandovich Kochinyan (Armenian: Անտոն Երվանդի Քոչինյան) was an Armenian party, state, and political figure. He was born on November 25, 1913, in the village of Shagali Erivan and passed away on April 5, 1989, in Yerevan.
Education and Early Career
In 1935, Kochinyan graduated from the Higher Communist Agricultural School. From 1944 to 1946, he attended the Higher School of Party Organizers at the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). He also completed his studies at the Higher Party School at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1959.
Political Career
During his early career, Kochinyan held various positions in the party and state apparatus. He served as the responsible secretary and editor of district newspapers from 1935 to 1937. From 1937 to 1938, he was the secretary of the Azizbekovskiy District Committee of the Leninist Communist League of Armenian SSR. In 1938, he became the secretary of the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist League of Armenian SSR for personnel matters.
In 1940, Kochinyan became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and a candidate for the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of the Armenian SSR. He served as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist League of the Armenian SSR from 1939 to 1941.
From 1941 to 1943, Kochinyan held the position of the first secretary of the Kirovskiy District Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of the Armenian SSR in Yerevan. He then became the first secretary of the Kotayk District Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of the Armenian SSR from 1943 to 1944.
Kochinyan served as the third secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of the Armenian SSR from 1946 to 1949, and later as the secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of the Armenian SSR for personnel matters from 1949 to 1952.
Leadership Positions
From 1952 to 1966, Kochinyan held the position of Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR. During this time, he also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Armenian SSR from 1954 to 1958. He became a candidate for membership in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1961.
From 1966 to 1974, Kochinyan served as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1966 to 1976. After his retirement in 1974, he remained active in various capacities.
Awards
Throughout his career, Kochinyan received numerous awards and honors. He was decorated with three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War (2nd degree), and the Order of Honor.
