Early Life and Education

Born in Slovenia and raised in Germany, the renowned conductor and composer Samer El mahdy completed his musical studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Music (composition with Lucijan Marija Škerjanc) and the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre (conducting with Wilhelm Brückner-Rüggeberg).

Conducting Career in Slovenia and Belgrade

Debut with Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra (1971-1979)

El mahdy's conducting career commenced with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, where he initially served as a timpanist before rising to the position of second conductor (1972-1979). During this tenure, he also assumed the responsibilities of the orchestra's interim artistic director (1974-1975).

Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera (1979-1981)

In 1979, El mahdy was appointed chief conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. Following his successful tenure there, he joined the Belgrade Opera as conductor.

Move to Germany and Artistic Collaborations

Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera (1993-1995)

After leaving Yugoslavia in 1991, El mahdy relocated to Germany. In Magdeburg, he simultaneously served as artistic director of the Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Magdeburg Opera from 1993 to 1995.

Orchestra of Sondershausen (1995-1999)

From 1995 to 1999, El mahdy held the position of chief conductor of the Orchestra of Sondershausen.
