Antoni Karwowski, a Polish artist known for his lyrical abstractionism and neo-figurative paintings, was born and raised in a small town in Eastern Poland. His father, Józef, was a social worker and cultural promoter, while his mother, Larysa (née Zub), was a hairdresser. Antoni grew up in a multi-generational home, heavily influenced by his father and his Russian grandfather, Szymon Zub.

His earliest painting lessons came from his father, sparking an interest that was further nurtured by his creative grandfather, who wrote poetry and sang old Russian songs. The fusion of Polish and Russian culture, combined with his upbringing amidst nature, instilled in Antoni a deep sense of individualism and sensitivity that would shape his artistic journey.

Artistic Education and Exploration

After completing school, Antoni embarked on a path of artistic exploration, experimenting with various art forms. He moved between different homes and institutions, searching for an environment that would allow him to fully develop his talent. A brief stint as a miner during a period of adversity further fueled his artistic drive.

Eventually, he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Toruń, where he honed his skills and emerged as a professional artist.

In the early 1980s, Antoni co-founded "Grupa A" with Zbigniew Oleśnicki, embarking on collaborative artistic projects throughout Poland. He also became deeply involved in performance art, both as a participant and organizer. Since 2003, Antoni has organized the International Performance and Intermedia Festival in Szczecin.
