Early Life and Education

Born in 1932 to Domenico and Alice Antonini, Bernardo Antonini's family moved to Verona in 1934. After attending the Minor and Major Seminaries there, he was ordained a priest in 1955 at the age of 22. He subsequently earned doctorates in modern languages and theology and studied biblical studies in Rome and Jerusalem.

Teaching and Seminary Formation

For over 30 years, Antonini taught Latin, Greek, and Scripture at the Verona Seminary. He served as Director of the Seminary's theology school for 16 years and as Director of the diocesan Catechetical School for 12 years.

Ministry in Russia

In 1991, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz invited Antonini to Moscow, where he served as a parish vicar in Marks. Two years later, he was appointed Dean of the St. Thomas Aquinas College of Catholic Theology.

In 1993, Antonini became the first Rector of the Maria Regina Apostolorum Major Seminary. He founded the Russian Catholic newspaper "Svet Evangelia" and the journal "Theologia."

Later Years and Legacy

After being relieved of his position as Rector in 1999, Antonini was elevated to the rank of Apostolic Prothonotary. He headed the Jubilee-2000 commission and later served in the Karaganda Diocese in Kazakhstan as Vice-Rector of the Seminary and as Episcopal Vicar.

Antonini authored numerous theological books and articles. He passed away in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of scholarship, pastoral care, and service to the Catholic Church in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Post-Humous Recognition

The "Friends of Don Bernardo Antonini" association was established in Italy. In Moscow, the Father Bernardo Antonini School of the Bible is active. In 2009, the diocesan process for the beatification of Father Bernardo Antonini was opened.
