Archambault II, Lord of Bourbon

Reign and Administrative Acts

Archambault II ascended as Lord of Bourbon circa 990, succeeding his father, Archambault I, and mother, Rotharidis. While his reign may have begun earlier, the earliest known mention of him in historical records dates back to 995. In 1010/1011, he first appears in an official charter signing, donating land ownership. Subsequent references to Archambault II can be found in various documents between 1028 and 1031, as well as possibly in 1034.

Later Life and Family

According to the necrology of Souvigny Abbey, Archambault II passed away on June 12th. He was united in marriage with Ermengarde, believed to be the daughter of Herbert, Lord of Sully. Their union produced several children:

- Archambault III le Jeune (ca. 1000-1078), Lord of Bourbon

- Alboin (d. after 1025)
- Gero (d. after 1025)
- Aymon (d. 1071), Archbishop of Bourges from 1030
