Archimandrite Kirill
Archimandrite Kirill, an archimandrite (abbot) of the Georgian Orthodox Church, was of Greek origin.
Diplomatic Missions
In 1586, Kirill journeyed to Moscow on behalf of the Georgian king, requesting Tsar Feodor Ivanovich to take Iveria (Georgia) under his protection. Two years later, he returned to Russia to inform the tsar that the Georgians had accepted Russian suzerainty and presented him with gifts.
Advice on Military Strategy
In 1603, Kirill visited Moscow again and advised Tsar Boris Godunov to construct a stone fortress in Tarkhi and two others on the Tuzluk and Buynak rivers. Godunov organized a military expedition in 1604 under the command of princes Ivan Buturlin and Osip Plescheyev to implement this strategy.
Marriage Negotiations
Kirill also had a diplomatic mission to arrange marriages between the Georgian prince Teimuraz and Boris's daughter Ksenia, and between the Kartlian princess Elena and Boris's son Fedor.
