Early Life and Career

Jean-Marie Roland de La Platière was a French political figure who played a prominent role in the French Revolution. Born into a wealthy family in 1734, he studied law and became a successful lawyer.

Political Rise

In 1791, Roland was elected to the National Legislative Assembly as a member of the Girondin faction. He quickly became a leading voice in the assembly, advocating for a declaration of war against Austria and the confiscation of property from royalist émigrés.
