Armen Gularian: Armenian Statesman

Armen Grantovich Gularian (Armenian: Արմեն Գրանթովիչ Գուլարյան), born on September 25, 1954, in the Ijevan district, is an Armenian statesman. He graduated from the architectural and construction faculty of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1971 to 1976. Gularian was awarded the Marshal Baghramyan Medal in 2002.

Early Career

From 1976 to 1980, Gularian worked as the head of the architectural department at the Ijevan Executive Committee. He then served as the chief architect of the Ijevan district in the Armenian SSR from 1980 to 1988. During this time, he was elected as a deputy to the Ijevan City and District Councils from 1986 to 1996.

Political Career

From 1988 to 1990, Gularian served as the head of the construction, industry, and communication department at the Ijevan District Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. He then became the acting chairman of the executive committee of the Ijevan District Council from 1990 to 1991, and later the chairman from 1991 to 1996.

In 1996, Gularian was elected as the mayor of Ijevan. He is a member of the Union of Architects of Armenia and has designed and built several notable structures. He has also been a laureate of republican competitions.

Later Career

From February 1999, Gularian served as the governor of the Tavush Province, and from 2000, he became the chairman of the Tavush Provincial Council. He is a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and was recognized as an academician by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN) in 2002.
