Biography of Arnold Krug

Arnold Krug was a German composer and the son of composer Diederich Krug. He studied in Hamburg under his father and Cornelius Gurlitt, and then at the Leipzig Conservatory under Carl Reinecke. He later studied in Berlin under Friedrich Kiel and Eduard Franck. From 1872 to 1877, he served as a professor of piano at the Stern Conservatory. Afterward, he spent two years traveling in Italy before returning to Hamburg.

Upon his return, Krug dedicated the rest of his life to teaching at various educational institutions and privately in Hamburg. He also led several choral ensembles. One of his notable students was Gustav Jenner. Krug's compositions include two symphonies, a symphonic prologue to Shakespeare's tragedy "Othello," as well as piano and vocal music. His String Sextet Krug Op. 68, composed in 1896, gained the greatest recognition and popularity.
