Albania's Politician and Educator

Early Life and Education

Born in Tirana on March 15, 1953, she completed her primary and secondary education in the city. From 1972 to 1975, she pursued a degree in English from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Tirana.

Teaching Career

Upon graduating, she taught at the Asim Vokshi High School of Foreign Languages in Tirana. In 1985, she joined the University of Tirana as an English instructor. She continued teaching until 1997.

Political Journey

In 1991, she joined the Socialist Party of Albania (SPA) and became a member of its leadership council the following year. She played a significant role in the political events of 1997. In 1998, she was appointed as the SPA's Secretary for Foreign Relations, a position she held on multiple occasions.

Parliamentary Experience

She entered the People's Assembly for the first time in 1997 as a representative of the Fier region. She was re-elected in 2001 and 2005, serving as a member of parliament until 2009.

Cabinet Positions

During her tenure, she held the positions of Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports (1997-1998) and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister (2001-2002).

International Engagements

She served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Albanian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Since 2013, she has chaired the Albanian Committee on Foreign Policy. Notably, in 2016, she became the Chairperson of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's Ad Hoc Group on Moldova.

Literary Contributions

She has authored numerous articles on political and socio-economic issues.

Personal Life

She is divorced and has two children.
