Born in the historic city of Karlovac, Croatia, Arthur Dubravčić emerged as a pioneering figure in the annals of Yugoslav football.

Early Career and Olympic Debut

As a schoolboy, Dubravčić co-founded and played for "Olimpija" in Karlovac, the first club to bear that name in the region. Relocating to Zagreb during World War I, he joined "Concordia" and represented the Zagreb city team, amassing 13 appearances.

His international debut came in 1920, as he became the first captain of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (SHS) national team at the Olympic Games in Antwerp. Despite a disappointing opening loss to Czechoslovakia, Dubravčić etched his name into history by scoring the team's first-ever goal in a consolation match against Egypt.

International Career Highlights

Dubravčić's unwavering spirit guided the SHS team throughout his nine international appearances. His final match came in a friendly against Austria in 1924, while he served as part of the Olympic squad but did not feature in any games.

Post-Playing Years and Legacy

Following his retirement, Dubravčić remained an integral part of "Concordia," holding various administrative roles. He also worked in social welfare, officiated football matches, and contributed as a sports correspondent.

Arthur Dubravčić passed away in 1969 at the age of 74, just days before the 50th anniversary of the Yugoslav Football Federation. His contributions to the establishment of Yugoslav football were posthumously recognized at the assembly, a fitting tribute to his pioneering legacy.
