Early Career and Success in Ivory Coast
Aruna Dindane, an Ivorian footballer, began his professional career with one of Ivory Coast's top-flight teams, ASEC Mimosas. With the club, he achieved significant success, winning the African Super Cup in 1999, the African Champions League in 1998, and the Ivory Coast Championship in 2000. In 1999, he emerged as the league's top scorer with 13 goals.
European Journey and Accolades
In the summer of 2000, Dindane moved to Belgian club Anderlecht and quickly became a regular starter. He contributed to the team's triumphs in the Belgian Championship during the 2000/01 and 2003/04 seasons, as well as the Belgian Super Cup in 2001. In 2003, he was recognized as the Belgian Championship's Player of the Season and Africa's Best African Player in Europe. His talent was showcased in the UEFA Champions League group stages and the 2002/03 UEFA Cup, where he helped Anderlecht reach the Round of 16.
French Career and Injury Setback
In June 2005, Dindane joined French club Lens on a five-year contract. The team announced that he would not be sold until 2010. He won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Lens in 2005 and played in the Round of 16 of the 2006/07 UEFA Cup. However, in the 2007/08 season, Lens faced relegation to Ligue 2 after finishing 18th.
Dindane suffered a knee injury in a match against Monaco on May 3, 2008, which sidelined him until January 2009. Lens secured promotion to Ligue 1 by winning Ligue 2 in the 2008/09 season.
Premier League Experience and Return to Lens
On August 25, 2009, Dindane was loaned to English Premier League club Portsmouth for a year with an option to purchase. He made his Premier League debut on September 26, 2009, in a match against Everton that Portsmouth lost 0-1. On October 31, he scored a hat-trick against Wigan Athletic, including his first goal of the season. Dindane finished the season with eight goals in 19 appearances.
Despite reaching the final of the FA Cup in 2009/10, Portsmouth was relegated to the Championship after finishing bottom of the table. Dindane returned to Lens at the end of his loan spell.
Middle Eastern Adventure
In late May 2010, Dindane moved to Qatari club Lekhwiya for a fee of €3 million. The team qualified for the top flight of the Qatari league. In January 2012, he agreed to join Al-Gharafa, but his stay was short-lived. On May 27, 2012, he signed a one-year contract with Al-Sailiya.
Late Career in England and Qatar
After half a season with Al-Sailiya, Dindane was released and began training with Leeds United. On March 23, 2013, he signed with Crystal Palace until the end of the 2012/13 season. However, he was released before making his debut due to the coaching staff's concerns about his fitness.
Dindane ended his career in Qatar, playing for Al-Gharafa and Lekhwiya again.
International Career
Dindane made his debut for the Ivory Coast national team in 2000. He represented his country in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2010 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. His greatest achievement was helping Ivory Coast reach the final of the 2006 tournament.
Personal Life
In January 2006, Dindane's family suffered a tragic loss when one of his twin daughters passed away at the age of five months.
