Early Life and Education
Ashleigh Banfield is a Canadian and American journalist who was born on December 29, 1967, in Winnipeg, Canada. She obtained two degrees, one from the University of King's College in 1988 and another from the University of British Columbia in 1992.

Journalism Career
Banfield began her journalism career in Canada right after graduating from university in 1988. She worked as a reporter for various news channels, including CJBN-TV in Ontario and CKY-TV in her hometown of Winnipeg. She also worked for CFRN-TV and CICT-TV, where she received two Iris Awards for her outstanding journalistic work. Additionally, she served as a freelance journalist for ABC News during the presidential summits in 1991 and 1992.

In the late 1990s, Banfield's talent caught the attention of American channels, leading her to work in Dallas as a reporter for KDFW-TV. She received awards such as the Emmy and Texas Associated Press Award for her contributions to the channel. During her time in Dallas, Banfield started wearing square-shaped glasses, which became her signature look. September 11 Attacks
In 2001, Banfield's career took a significant turn during the September 11 attacks in Manhattan. She was reporting live when the World Trade Center towers collapsed behind her on camera.
