Dr. Ashutosh Tewari is an American physician, urologic surgeon, and oncologist. As a leading specialist in urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, he has dedicated his career to advancing the field through the use of cutting-edge technology. By integrating robotics into surgical procedures, Dr. Tewari has achieved remarkable outcomes, improving the quality of life for countless patients.

Early Education and Training
Dr. Tewari's journey into the world of medicine began at the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh, India. His exceptional academic achievements earned him a bachelor's degree with honors and 17 gold medals upon graduating in 1984.

His pursuit of knowledge in urology continued at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences under the guidance of Professor Mahendra Bhandari. Dr. Tewari further honed his skills in the United States at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Florida, where he completed a fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Mani Menon.
Innovations in Prostate Cancer Surgery
In 2004, Dr. Tewari completed his residency training, having previously undertaken additional coursework in oncology. His introduction of the da Vinci Surgical System and the advancement of laparoscopic-based robotic surgery revolutionized the treatment of prostate cancer and prostatectomy. These minimally invasive techniques eliminated the need for extensive surgical incisions, resulting in advantages for both surgeons and patients.
Dr. Tewari's research focused on promoting these novel surgical approaches, demonstrating their improved ergonomics, reduced blood loss, and enhanced visualization. For patients, the benefits included less pain, reduced scarring, and fewer complications. Consequently, the recovery time for both overall health and genitourinary function was significantly accelerated.
