Biography of Audrey Allen

Audrey Allen, an American woman and breast cancer survivor, had once considered her career as one of the most important aspects of her life. However, everything changed when she was diagnosed with cancer. Allen soon realized that her priorities had shifted, and she now focused on spending as much time as possible with her loved ones. Her battle with cancer began in November 2004, when the terrifying diagnosis completely devastated the 48-year-old woman who had previously believed she was perfectly healthy.

Finding the Right Treatment

Although the shock of the diagnosis quickly wore off, Allen wasted no time in seeking potential treatments. She found a surgeon near her home in Savannah, Georgia, who was supposed to remove the malignant tumor. While the surgery was relatively successful, Allen encountered difficulties during her consultations with an oncologist and a radiologist. These doctors seemed only interested in aggressive treatments such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, without considering any alternative options.

A New Direction

Realizing that it was difficult to work with such doctors, Allen began her search for alternative treatments. Fortunately, she remembered reading articles about the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in special magazines and seeing their advertisements on television. What impressed her the most about CTCA was their patient-centered approach to cancer treatment. At CTCA, Allen found a wide range of services, including naturopaths, dieticians, massage therapists, psychologists, acupuncturists, and even a fitness center. Additionally, CTCA offered standard oncological resources.

Choosing CTCA

After contacting CTCA representatives and receiving a detailed consultation, Allen learned about the centers and the services offered there, specifically for patients with her type of cancer. When she confirmed that her insurance covered treatment at CTCA, she made the final decision to seek treatment at the CTCA hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shortly after, Allen arrived at the airport with a friend, where they were greeted by a CTCA staff member who helped them with their luggage and transportation to the center. This personalized service left a strong impression on Allen, which continued throughout her subsequent visits to CTCA.

A Personalized Approach

Upon her arrival in Oklahoma, Allen began working with doctors and analysts. The medical professionals at CTCA impressed her with their listening skills and collaborative approach to treatment planning. The treatment plan took into account Allen's preferences and active involvement in the decision-making process. The doctors at CTCA carefully considered all possible options and understood that each patient is unique. They delved into the details of Allen's case, including the role of menopause in her treatment. Recognizing the hormonal factors at play in her fight against cancer, they decided to expedite the process by removing her ovaries and prescribing a specific course of radiation therapy and medication.

Comprehensive Care

In addition to the primary medical team, Allen also received support from a dietician and naturopath. The dietician helped Allen create an optimal diet tailored to her situation, emphasizing the importance of cruciferous vegetables for breast cancer patients. The naturopath provided Allen with a series of supplements and herbal infusions that alleviated the side effects of treatment and improved her quality of life. The CTCA team also included clergy members and psychologists, who provided Allen with the necessary spiritual support and taught her techniques to cope with stress through specialized breathing exercises.

A Focus on Family

Currently, Allen dedicates as much time as possible to her family. She no longer prioritizes her career, and materialistic desires have taken a backseat in her life. Allen is fully focused on the needs and desires of her loved ones, including parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren. They have become the new purpose and meaning in her life, replacing her previous aspirations.
