Biography of Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou was born on August 9, 1976, in the town of Beaumont in central France. Her father was a dentist and her mother was a school teacher who was also involved in the fight against illiteracy. It was her parents who encouraged Audrey to try her hand at acting, even though she had dreams of becoming a primatologist specializing in monkeys.

As Audrey grew older, she developed new interests. She excelled in music school, playing the oboe and piano, and later became interested in literature. She enrolled in the Sorbonne to study world literature but soon found herself drawn back to the world of theater. She joined the "Cours Florent" theater courses and fell in love with the stage. Audrey worked as a secretary during the day and attended auditions in her free time. To her surprise, she quickly found work on television, starting with a small role in the TV movie "Heart of the Target" (1996). This was followed by roles in series such as "Cordier, Police Squad" (1997) and "Julie Lescaut" (1998), as well as films like "Baby-Boom" (1998) and "Technical Chaos" (1998).

In 1999, Audrey caught the attention of renowned director Tony Marshall, who was looking for an actress for his new project, "Vénus Beauty Institute." Audrey impressed him during the audition and was cast in the film, which became her big breakthrough. She received her first film award, the César, for her performance in the movie. This role opened the doors to the world of mainstream cinema for her.

In 2001, Audrey's career took a major turn with the release of the eccentric comedy "Amélie." Originally, the role of the naive and romantic Amélie Poulain was meant for actress Emily Watson, and the film was even named after her. However, due to Watson's busy schedule, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet had to search for another actress. He saw Audrey's face on a poster for the film "Vénus Beauty Institute" and immediately knew she was perfect for the role. The film was a massive success, turning Audrey into an international star. She was nominated for a Golden Globe, and her character, Amélie Poulain, became a beloved figure worldwide.

One of Audrey's notable works after "Amélie" was her role in the war drama "A Very Long Engagement" (2004), directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Although it didn't achieve the same level of success as "Amélie," it received positive reviews from critics. Audrey also starred in the film "The Da Vinci Code" (2006), playing the role of cryptologist Sophie Neveu. While the film was successful at the box office, it received negative reviews from critics.

"The Da Vinci Code" was one of the few American projects in Audrey's career. Like many European actresses, she prefers to work in her homeland and has gained recognition worldwide. In 2009, she impressed audiences with her portrayal of Coco Chanel in the biographical film "Coco Before Chanel." Her talent and versatility were once again evident in this role.

Audrey's recent works include the films "Mood Indigo" and "Chinese Puzzle," both released in 2013. Since then, she has been absent from the screen, with rumors suggesting her focus on her personal life. Audrey is known for keeping her relationships private, but it is rumored that she is currently dating actor Benoît Poelvoorde.

While Audrey remains a mystery to most people, she is open about her interests and passions. She loves reading, painting, and classical music. Although she rarely exercises and sleeps for 9-10 hours a day, Audrey maintains a slim figure. She believes her figure is a gift from above.

Despite Audrey's claims of leading an ordinary life, it is hard to disagree with an American company that once stated Audrey Tautou is the best thing France has given to the world after croissants and Chanel.
