Early Life and Education
Ayelet Shaked was born Ayelet Ben Shaul on May 7 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Her mother was a schoolteacher, and her father was an accountant. Shaked served in the Israel Defense Forces as an educational instructor in the Golani Brigade. She later earned a bachelor's degree in electronics and computer science from Tel Aviv University.
Political Career
After working as a programmer and marketing manager for Texas Instruments, Shaked entered politics in 2006 as head of the office of opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu. She joined the Likud party but switched to the Jewish Home in 2012. Shaked was elected to the Knesset in 2013 and again in 2015. In May 2015, she became Israel's Minister of Justice.
Minister of Justice
As Minister of Justice, Shaked implemented reforms to the judiciary and the legal system, including restrictions on judicial review and changes to the process for appointing judges. She also opposed illegal immigration from Africa and criticized the national army radio station, Galei Tzahal, for its "leftist" bias.
Later Career
In 2019, Shaked's party, the New Right, failed to pass the electoral threshold. She has continued to advocate for conservative policies, including opposition to two-state solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Personal Life
Ayelet Shaked is married to an Israeli Air Force pilot and has two children.
