Biography of Azat Arshakyan

Azat Arshakyan is a former member of the Armenian parliament and the current chairman of the Christian-Democratic Party of Armenia. He was born in Armenia and studied at the Yerevan Architectural and Construction Institute from 1967 to 1972, where he graduated as an economist-constructor.

Political Persecution and Imprisonment

Arshakyan's political career has been fraught with challenges. He was unjustly sentenced two times for political reasons and spent a total of approximately 10 years in prison camps between 1974 and 1977, and again from 1981 to 1987. Despite these setbacks, he remained resilient and committed to his political beliefs.

Work at Nubarashen Poultry Farm

After his release from prison in 1987, Arshakyan began working as a laborer at the Nubarashen Poultry Farm. His dedication and skills were soon recognized, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become the director of the farm.

Political Career

In 1990, Arshakyan entered the political arena as a member of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR. He served as a deputy from 1990 to 1995 and again from 1995 to 1999 in the Armenian parliament. During his tenure, he made significant contributions as the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and as a member of the "Republic" faction.

Leadership of the Christian-Democratic Party of Armenia

Since 1999, Arshakyan has been the chairman of the Christian-Democratic Party of Armenia. Under his leadership, the party has grown in prominence and influence, advocating for democratic values, social justice, and the protection of human rights in Armenia.
