Barbara Gladstone - American Art Dealer and Gallerist
Barbara Gladstone is an American art dealer and gallerist who has made significant contributions to the contemporary art world. She is the founder of the Stuart Regen Visionaries Fund at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City.
Gladstone Gallery
Gladstone owns and operates the Gladstone Gallery, located on West 24th Street in Chelsea, New York City. The gallery, which spans eight hundred square meters, was designed by renowned architect Annabelle Selldorf. Additionally, Gladstone also owns and operates a branch of the gallery in Brussels.
Early Career
Before relocating to Chelsea in 1996, Gladstone's gallery was situated on Greene Street in Soho. In the early 90s, she collaborated with Italian art dealer Christian Stein on a joint project called "SteinGladstone." This gallery, located in a renovated fire station on Wooster Street, focused on showcasing rare installations by Italian and American artists.

Today, the Gladstone Gallery represents a multitude of contemporary artists including Iranian photographer Shirin Neshat, British-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor, British artist Sarah Lucas from the Young British Artists movement, and one of America's most renowned contemporary artists, Matthew Barney.
Collaboration with Matthew Barney
Gladstone has served as a producer for many of Matthew Barney's films, including four films from "The Cremaster Cycle" and the 2006 film "Drawing Restraint 9," a collaboration between Barney and his wife, Icelandic singer Björk. Gladstone herself appeared in Barney's last video film, "Drawing Restraint 13," and served as a producer for Shirin Neshat's film "Women Without Men."
Personal Life and Stuart Regen Visionaries Fund
Gladstone's birth name is Levitt, and she was married to Elliot B. Regen, who has since passed away. She has two children, David Regen and Richard Regen. Sadly, her third son, Stuart Regen, passed away in 1998 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In 2008, Barbara established the Stuart Regen Visionaries Fund at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in memory of her son. The fund aims to support a series of public lectures and presentations called the "Visionaries Series," which started in 2009. The events feature prominent international figures in the fields of art, architecture, design, and contemporary culture, including renowned chef and restaurateur Alice Waters and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.
