Childhood and Adolescence
Barun Sobti, the future heartthrob of many, was born on August 21, 1984. As a typical Punjabi boy, he attended the prestigious St. Mark's School in New Delhi. However, his rebellious nature led him to indulge in underage drinking, partying, and occasional fistfights. A pivotal moment occurred when Barun stole $7 from his parents' wallet. His father's severe punishment and a heart-to-heart talk forced him to choose between changing his ways or leaving home, prompting him to pursue a more disciplined path.
Education and Career Beginnings
Barun's restless spirit found an outlet in soccer, where he became the school champion. He aspired to become a professional footballer but abandoned the idea due to India's limited soccer scene. At the age of 16, he earned his first salary by helping his brother disassemble a car at a Tata Motors dealership. After completing school, Barun studied Management at the insistence of his father. He later secured a job at the reputed Jindal Telecom, where he worked diligently for six years.
Transition to Television
In 2009, Barun's acting journey began with a small role in the soap opera "Shraddha." Despite its short-lived run, his performance caught the attention of producers. He landed an episodic role in "Dill Mill Gayye" before being cast in the pivotal role of Arnav Singh Raizada in "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon." The series gained immense popularity in India and beyond, propelling Barun to stardom.
Bollywood Debut and Return to Television
In 2012, Barun made his Bollywood debut in the romantic comedy "Main Aur Mr. Riight." The film underperformed at the box office, but Barun had two more projects in the pipeline. While "Tu Hai Mera Sunday" and "22 Yards" met with mixed reactions, Barun's box office luck eluded him. Feeling dissatisfied, he decided to return to television, reprising his role as Arnav Singh Raizada in "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Season 2." He continued to star in a few Bollywood films, including "Dry Dreams" and "Kuch Kuch Locha Hai," but his true success remained on the small screen.
Personal Life
Barun's personal life has been widely speculated upon, with rumors of relationships with co-stars and fans. However, in December 2010, he married his childhood friend Pashmeen Manchanda. He publicly expresses his devotion and loyalty to his wife. Regarding her reaction to his intimate scenes, he simply states that she has come to terms with his profession. While the couple is yet to have children, they plan to start a family soon.
Present Endeavors
Barun Sobti continues to model for prominent brands such as Ford and Honda. He is preparing to shoot for the third season of "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?" and is considering offers for new projects. Despite his busy schedule, Barun finds time to pursue his passions, whether it's playing soccer or basketball with friends, hosting parties at home, or lounging on the couch with his family while watching movies starring Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, or Denzel Washington. He occasionally takes solitary rides on his motorcycle or his beloved Ford Mustang, reflecting on his past adventures and finding solace in the open road.
