Biography of Gusta Marya Katznelson
Early Life and EducationGusta Marya Katznelson was born in Bar, Ukraine, in 1897. In 1911, she immigrated to Mandatory Palestine with her mother and sister. She graduated from the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium in Tel Aviv and later pursued further education in the humanities at the University of Geneva.
Educational Career
Katznelson worked as a teacher for 18 years. In 1926, she participated in the first Congress of the International Women's Zionist Organization (WIZO) and became a member of its Central Committee. She later headed WIZO's Jerusalem branch.
Political Involvement
In 1951, Katznelson was elected to the second Knesset (Israeli Parliament) as a member of the General Zionists party. She served on the Committee for Public Services.
Personal Life
In 1918, Katznelson married Reuven Katznelson. Their daughter, Shulamit Katznelson, became an educator, and their son, Shmuel Tamir, entered politics. Katznelson passed away on August 30, 1980.
