Biography of Benjamin Bliss

Benjamin Bliss is an American operatic tenor and a participant in the 'Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program', a program for young artists organized by Plácido Domingo. He made his debut at the LA Opera in 2011 as Benvolio in the opera 'Roméo et Juliette'. In 2012, he portrayed Daniel in the medieval musical drama 'The Festival Play of Daniel' performed at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels by the LA Opera. He also appeared as a Guard/Revolutionary in Ernst Krenek's opera 'Das geheime Königreich' and as Harlequin in Viktor Ullmann's 'Der Kaiser von Atlantis' with the Colburn Orchestra conducted by James Conlon.

Bliss has performed the tenor solo in Johann Sebastian Bach's 'Magnificat' with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and in 'St. Matthew Passion' with the La Jolla Symphony. He has also appeared as a guest performer in the sitcom 'Whitney' on NBC. His future engagements include the role of Male Chorus in Benjamin Britten's 'The Rape of Lucretia' with the Colburn Orchestra conducted by James Conlon in April 2013. He will also make his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel in May 2013, performing works by Bach. This will be followed by the role of Alfredo in 'La Traviata' at the Wolf Trap Opera and participation in Gioachino Rossini's opera 'Il viaggio a Reims'.
