Biography of Benjamin Raich
Benjamin 'Benni' Raich was born on February 28, 1978, in Arzl im Pitztal, Tyrol. He is an Austrian alpine skier who has achieved great success in the sport. Raich is an Olympic champion and a World Cup champion in alpine skiing.

Career Achievements
Raich has won a total of 14 medals in the Winter Olympics and World Championships. He has also claimed 36 victories in the World Cup, dominating all disciplines except downhill. In addition, he has secured first and third place in the overall World Cup standings.

Throughout his career, Raich has achieved multiple victories in slalom, giant slalom, and alpine combined events. He has won three slalom races, two giant slalom races, and three alpine combined races in the World Cup. His remarkable performances have led him to surpass Kjetil André Aamodt, the Norwegian athlete who was named the best sportsman of the year in Norway in 2006, in terms of points.

Early Career
After winning the Junior World Championship in slalom and giant slalom, Raich made his debut in the World Cup in March 1996. He achieved his first victory in slalom in 1999. In 2001, Raich won a silver medal in slalom at the World Championships and went on to win the slalom World Cup that same season.
Olympic Success and World Championship Medals
In 2002, Raich won two bronze medals at the Salt Lake City Olympics in slalom and alpine combined events. Over time, he excelled in super-G and downhill disciplines as well. In 2005, he came close to winning the overall World Cup but finished second behind American skier Bode Miller. At the 2005 World Championships, Raich won a total of five medals, one in each discipline except downhill.
In 2006, Raich had his most successful season, winning the overall World Cup and adding gold medals in slalom and giant slalom at the Turin Olympics. He consistently displayed exceptional coordination and consistency in his performances, which helped him secure second place in the World Championships' overall standings in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2010.
Later Career and Honors
In 2014, Raich was chosen as the flag bearer for the Austrian team at the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympics. His sister, Carina Raich, is also an alpine skier who participated in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
