Biography of Berry Berenson
Berinthia 'Berry' Berenson Perkins was an American actress, model, and photographer. She was born on April 14, 1948, in New York, USA. Berry was the youngest daughter of Robert L. Berenson, a Lithuanian Jew and an American diplomat who later became a civil servant in the maritime industry. Her mother, Countess Maria Louisa Yvonne Radha de Wendt de Kerlor, known as Goga Schiaparelli, was a prominent socialite of Italian, Swiss, and Egyptian descent, popular in the 1940s. Her maternal grandmother, Elsa Schiaparelli, was a renowned fashion designer of the 1930s, and her maternal grandfather, Count Wilhelm de Wendt de Kerlor, was a theosophist and medium.
Early Life and Career
Berry's elder sister, Marisa Berenson, also became a famous model and actress. After a brief career as a fashion model in the late 1960s, Berry became a freelance photographer, and by 1973, her photographs appeared in publications such as Life, Glamour, Vogue, and Newsweek. In addition to her photography work, Berenson also appeared in several films, including the horror film "Cat People" in 1982, directed by Paul Schrader and starring Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell. She starred alongside Anthony Perkins in Alan Rudolph's thriller "Remember My Name" in 1978, and appeared in the comedy "Winter Kills" with Jeff Bridges and John Huston in 1979. Berry can also be seen in the 1980 series "Scrubbers" with Lindsay Wagner and Barry Bostwick.
Marriage and Family
On August 9, 1973, Berenson married actor Anthony Perkins on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the northeastern United States. The couple had two sons: actor and musician Oz Perkins, born on February 2, 1974, and folk-rock musician Elvis Perkins, born on February 9, 1976. Berry and Anthony were married until September 12, 1992, when Berry passed away from AIDS.
Tragic Death
On September 11, 2001, Berry was returning home to California on American Airlines Flight 11 after vacationing on Cape Cod. It was the first plane hijacked by suicide terrorists. Berenson tragically lost her life during the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
