Early Life and Education
Bibhu Mohapatra was born on June 15, 1972, in Orissa, India. His passion for fashion emerged at a young age, and he created his first dress for his sister at the age of 12.
After earning a master's degree in economics from Utah State University in 1996, Mohapatra moved to New York City to pursue a degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Award-Winning Designer
While still a student at FIT, Mohapatra received the prestigious "Critic's Award" for Best Eveningwear Design from the New York University Design Competition in 1997.
Collaborations and Early Success
Upon graduating, Mohapatra worked as an assistant to renowned designer Halston. In 1999, he was appointed as Design Director for furrier J. Mendel. Over the next decade, Mohapatra honed his skills in working with luxurious furs and helped Mendel transition the brand to a more modern aesthetic.
Launch of Bibhu Mohapatra
After the presentation of J. Mendel's Spring 2008 collection, Mohapatra parted ways with the brand to launch his own label, Bibhu Mohapatra. He has since released several collections of women's ready-to-wear, couture, and fur.

Mohapatra has received widespread recognition for his designs, which have been featured in prestigious publications such as "New York Magazine," "Wall Street Journal," "Vogue," and "Vogue Russia." His creations have been worn by A-list celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, and Sienna Miller.

Inspirations and Latest Collections
