Biography of Bill Cartwright
Bill Cartwright is an American basketball player and coach, who has achieved great success in both roles. He was born on July 30, 1957, in Lodi, California, USA. He attended Elk Grove High School in California before enrolling at the University of San Francisco. During his time at the university, Cartwright played for the college team and participated in three youth basketball championships.

Playing Career
Cartwright's impressive performance, averaging 19.1 points per game, caught the attention of the New York Knicks basketball team management. He was immediately invited to join the main squad after graduating from college in 1979. Cartwright moved to New York and played for the New York Knicks for eight years. In his first season, he was selected as one of the most productive centers and made it to the All-Star team. Bill's scoring average of over twenty points per game was a testament to his skills. He was also known for his excellent court vision and organizational abilities, earning him the nickname "The Teacher."
In 1988, Cartwright transferred to the Chicago Bulls, where he played under the legendary coach Phil Jackson. As part of the star-studded team, including players like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Scott Williams, and Horace Grant, Cartwright became a three-time NBA champion in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
In 1994, Cartwright joined the Seattle SuperSonics for a year before retiring from his professional playing career.
Coaching Career
Knowing Cartwright's organizational abilities, Phil Jackson, now the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, immediately invited him to join his coaching staff. In 1996 and 1997, Cartwright became an NBA champion as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls. After Jackson's departure, Cartwright remained as an assistant coach and eventually became the head coach of the team in 2001.
In 2004, Cartwright took on the role of assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets. In 2008, he was appointed as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns.

Bill Cartwright and his wife, Sherry, have four children - Justin, Jason, James, and Kristin.
