Samuel Eto'o Fils
Early Life and Youth CareerSamuel Eto'o(born 10 March 1981) is a Cameroonian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Qatari club Al-Khor and the Cameroon national team.
Professional Career in France
Caen and ValenceEto'o never played professionally in Cameroon. He moved to France in 1984, where his parents worked at the Cameroonian embassy in Paris and later in London. His parents decided he would remain in France with the Degoupelle foster family. He was spotted by a coach from Saint-Pierre while playing football in the courtyard. He played as a striker and scored around 50 goals. He had a trial at Caen and successfully integrated into their training center, where he stayed for five years. In 1996, he moved to Valence, where he played 69 games and scored 6 goals.
Nice and Montpellier
He then spent two years at Nice, playing 70 matches and scoring 3 goals. In 2000, he moved to Montpellier, where he played 63 games over three seasons, attracting the attention of bigger clubs.
Bundesliga and Return to France
He moved to Kaiserslautern and made his Bundesliga debut against Stuttgart. In 2005, he returned to France with Nice, where he had previously played.
Career in Qatar
Eto'o represented Al-Khor from 2006 to 2008. Since the summer of 2008, he has been playing for fellow Qatari club Al-Khor.
International Career
Confederations Cups and Africa Cup of NationsEto'o played in the 2001 Confederations Cup, where his team finished third in their group. He won the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Senegal 3-2 in the final. He played all three matches in the 2002 World Cup. In 2003, he participated in the Confederations Cup, where Cameroon finished runners-up, losing 1-0 to France in extra time in the final.
