Early Career and Corinthians GloryBrazilian footballer Biro-Biro is widely recognized as a legend of the Corinthians club. Starting his professional career with Sport Recife in 1977, he joined Corinthians the following year and spent a remarkable 11 years with the team. During his tenure, he played in an impressive 589 matches (265 victories, 199 draws, and 125 defeats), becoming the club's fifth-highest player in history. He contributed 75 goals to Corinthians.
An Unforgettable Welcome
Biro-Biro's entry into Corinthians holds an amusing anecdote. On his first day at the club, then-president Vicente Matheus mistakenly referred to him as "Léto Léto," a mispronunciation that sparked laughter among the players.
Leadership and Triumphs
Despite not being capped for the Brazilian national team, Biro-Biro was a key figure in Corinthians' success during the 1980s. He played under the leadership of renowned players such as Socrates and Casagrande and helped the team win four São Paulo State Championships. His memorable goal against rival São Paulo FC sealed the victory in the 1982 championship.
Post-Corinthians Career and Politics
After his time with Corinthians, Biro-Biro played for various clubs, including Portuguesa Desportos, Coritiba, Guarani, Paulista, Remo, Botafogo (Ribeirão Preto), and Nacional (São Paulo). He later ventured into coaching, briefly leading Mauaense FC.
In addition to his football career, Biro-Biro entered politics. He served as an elected member of the São Paulo Municipality Council from 1989 to 1992. In 2006, he ran for the Brazilian Parliament but was unsuccessful.
