Bison Dele: A Biography

Bison Dele, an American professional basketball player, was born in Fresno, California. He was the second son of singer Eugene Williams from the group "The Platters" and Patricia Phillips. Dele began playing sports in high school in Santa Monica, and his basketball career continued at the University of Maryland. After a year, he transferred to the University of Arizona, where he played for two more years before being drafted by the Orlando Magic in the NBA draft.

Dele spent two years with the Orlando Magic, where he rarely saw playing time. He then played for the Denver Nuggets for two years, with his performance improving significantly. He continued his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, becoming a more prominent player and improving his average statistics. After his time with the Clippers, Dele faced difficulties in finding a team due to his high salary demands. He briefly played for the Chicago Bulls before ending his career with the Detroit Pistons.

During his time with the Pistons, Dele achieved his best results, with an average of 16.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. In 1998, he changed his name to Bison Dele to honor his Native American and African ancestry. He played his final season under his new name.

An Eccentric Personality

Dele was known for his eccentric behavior throughout his career. He unexpectedly left the NBA at the peak of his career, retiring before the start of the 1999-2000 season at the age of 30. Despite being one of the highest-paid players on the Pistons, he had a difficult relationship with the team's management, leading to his early departure.

In July 2002, Dele and his girlfriend, Serena Karlan, embarked on a sailing trip in the Pacific Ocean on Dele's catamaran, "Hakuna Matata," accompanied by skipper Bertrand Saldo. Dele's brother, Miles Dabord (born Kevin Williams), was the only person associated with the trip who did not disappear after July 8. The travelers were last seen on Tahiti. Dele and Karlan had regular communication with their banks and families before this date.

On July 20, Dabord was seen in Tahiti, arriving there by boat. On September 5, the police began their investigation, and through Dele's family and acquaintances, they managed to locate Dabord in Phoenix, Arizona. Dabord had forged his brother's signature to buy $152,000 worth of gold. He used his brother's passport as identification. Mexican police later discovered that Dabord had stayed in a hotel in Tijuana. Two days before this, "Hakuna Matata" was found on the shores of Tahiti, with bullet holes on the hull.

The FBI investigation concluded that Dele, Karlan, and Saldo were likely murdered and thrown overboard, most likely in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Finding their bodies is considered nearly impossible.
