Blagoy Georgiev: A Bulgarian Football Legend

Early Life and Club Career in Bulgaria

Blagoy Georgiev, a talented midfielder, was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. He started his football journey with Slavia Sofia, where he scored 24 goals in 148 appearances. Georgiev went on to spend time on loan with Spanish club Alaves before returning to Bulgaria to join Crvena Zvezda. With Crvena Zvezda, he claimed both the Serbian championship and the Serbian Cup.

Bundesliga Stint and Move to Russia

In 2007, Georgiev embarked on a chapter in Germany with Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg. He made his Bundesliga debut in a match against Borussia Dortmund and found the net for the first time against Schalke 04 the following season. After a brief spell back at Slavia, Georgiev transferred to Terek Grozny in Russia.

Career in Russian Premier League

Georgiev made his Russian Premier League debut with Terek Grozny in 2009, scoring his first goal against Zenit Saint Petersburg. In December 2012, he joined FC Amkar Perm on a free transfer. The midfielder reportedly earned 4.5 million USD during his time in Perm, helping the club fend off competition from Lokomotiv Moscow and Stuttgart.

Return to Bulgaria and Time with Rubin Kazan

In 2014, Georgiev signed a two-year contract with Rubin Kazan. He made his debut against Lokomotiv Moscow before scoring his first goal in a match against FC Torpedo Moscow.

Stint with FC Orenburg and Retirement

Georgiev's final club was FC Orenburg, which he joined in 2016. He made his debut against FC Anzhi and scored his first goal in a match against FC Spartak Moscow. Georgiev announced his retirement from football in late 2017.

Career in the National Team

Georgiev represented Bulgaria at the Under-21 level, making 16 appearances and scoring 11 goals. His senior international debut came in 2004 against Malta. He scored his first goal for the national team in a friendly match against Cyprus in 2007.
