Bobby Convey
Early CareerBobby Convey attended the Bradenton Academy, which produced notable players such as Landon Donovan, Oguchi Onyewu, and DaMarcus Beasley. In 1999, Convey helped the United States under-17 team finish fourth at the FIFA World Championship in New Zealand.
D.C. United
In 2000, at the age of 16, Convey was drafted by D.C. United in the MLS. He became the youngest player to sign a professional contract at the time. Convey debuted for D.C. United on March 25, 2000, against the Los Angeles Galaxy. He scored his first goal for the club on July 4, 2000, against the Colorado Rapids.
Premier League: Reading and Liverpool
Convey's performance against Newcastle United during a preseason tour caught the attention of manager Bobby Robson. He joined Reading in the Football League Championship in 2004. After a successful season, he helped Reading win the Championship in 2005/06 and set an English record with 106 goals in 46 games. Convey earned a place in the Premier League with Reading, but missed most of the season due to injury.
International Career
Convey made his debut for the United States national team in 2000 against Mexico, becoming the third-youngest debutant for the team. He captained the U-20 team at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship and played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
