Boniface Mwangi: A Kenyan Visionary

Boniface Mwangi was born in Taveta, Kenya, near the border with Tanzania. His mother, a businesswoman, moved to Nairobi when he was six. He later lived in disadvantaged areas before settling in Pangani.

Journalism

In 2000, Mwangi's mother's death prompted him to pursue a career in photography. Inspired by Mohamed Amin, he enrolled in a private journalism school while continuing to sell books on the streets. He began publishing photographs in The Standard newspaper and received his first photo awards in 2005.

Activism

Mwangi's experiences documenting the 2007 post-election violence traumatized him. He launched the "Picha Mtaani" project, showcasing photographs of the violence to foster reconciliation. He also founded Team Courage, a lobby advocating for peaceful elections and good governance.

In 2011, he established Pawa 254, a center for artists and activists promoting social change.

Political Aspirations

Mwangi formed the Ukweli Party and ran for Parliament in the 2017 general election.

Personal Life

Mwangi is married to Hellen Njeri Mwangi, his partner in Pawa 254. They have three children.

Controversies

Accusations Against William Ruto:Mwangi's allegations of Ruto's involvement in the murder of Jacob Juma led to legal challenges, including accusations of witness tampering.
