Early Life and Career

McKee's formative years were spent in Seattle, where her father nurtured her interest in music and theater. She joined a girls' choir and, as part of the choir, toured Europe in 2000. She even performed in Rome at a concert organized at the request of Pope John Paul II. McKee recorded two albums with the choir, titled "Jackson Berkey Meets The Seattle Girls' Choir" and "Cantate 2000".

During her youth, McKee was known as "Trouble" in the rave scene she was a part of. She faced several disciplinary issues in her private school, which ultimately led to her expulsion due to concerns raised by other parents about the negative influence she had on their children. Although she enrolled in another school after her expulsion, McKee did not complete her education. Instead, she chose to pursue her music career after receiving interest from record labels.

Rise to Fame

McKee began writing songs at the age of 12. By the time she was 15, she released a small album featuring six tracks. In September 2004, she released her first full-length album, titled "Trouble," which included reworked songs she had accumulated over the years. The album gained attention after her song "Somebody" caught the ear of producer Nick Harcourt, who played it on a radio station. McKee received multiple offers from record labels and eventually signed a $1.85 million contract with Tom Whalley, a representative of Warner Brothers.

At the age of 16, McKee independently moved to Los Angeles to work on material for her debut album. She wrote all the music and lyrics for the album herself. At 17, she traveled to New York to record with Bob Power and later re-recorded all the tracks with Rob Cavallo in Los Angeles. Her song "Somebody" was featured in the film "Win a Date" (2004), further increasing the album's popularity. The album's success was notable due to the contrast between McKee's youthful appearance and the content of her music.

Continued Success

McKee's fame continued to grow, and she appeared in publications such as "Blender," "Nylon," "Interview," "Paper," "The Los Angeles Times," and "Teen People." She also made a guest appearance on the TV series "CSI: NY" alongside Alex Band. In her blog, she announced that she had signed a contract with producer Ted Bruner and would soon begin filming for the movie "August Rush." McKee's next album was expected to be released in 2009.
