Boris Alexandrovich Beder: A Pioneering Geologist

Early Life and Education

Boris Alexandrovich Beder, renowned Uzbek geologist, was born on August 4, 1908, in Tashkent. In 1925, he graduated from high school and pursued geological studies at the Central Asian State University's Physics and Mathematics Faculty. With the reorganization of the department, Beder completed his education at the Central Asian Geological Prospecting Institute in 1930, specializing in hydrogeology.

Geological Career

Upon graduating, Beder worked as a supervisor and technician for various hydrogeological teams at the Central Asian Geological Prospecting Administration. From 1943, he headed the Uzbek Hydrogeological Expedition tasked with mapping Uzbekistan. Simultaneously, from 1944, he assumed the role of Hydrogeology Department Head at the Geological Administration.

Groundbreaking Research and Discoveries

In 1947, Beder defended his doctoral dissertation while continuing his professional activities. He played a pivotal role in establishing the United Hydrogeological Expedition in 1951. Later, he led the expedition's hydro-mineral team as a supervisor.

Beder's contributions to Uzbekistan's geological knowledge are profound. He was involved in the discovery and exploration of over 30 mineral, industrial, and thermal water deposits throughout the country.

Institutional Contributions

From 1960, Beder worked as a Senior Researcher and Head of the Hydro-Mineral Raw Materials Laboratory at the Central Asian Scientific Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources. In 1970, he joined the newly formed Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, where he remained until his demise.

Legacy

Boris Alexandrovich Beder passed away in Tashkent on December 31, 1989. His scientific legacy includes over 220 published works, with 190 deposited in Uzbekistan's geological archives. He was an influential member of the Republican Society for Nature Protection, serving as Deputy Chairman of the Groundwater Protection Section.
