Boris Belenkiy: A Life of Art and Business

Early Life and Education

Boris Belenkiy was born in 1956 in Leningrad, a vibrant city that left an enduring impression on his childhood. From an early age, he developed a passion for art, attending drawing clubs and immersing himself in technical aesthetics and photography. Though he contemplated an artistic career, he eventually pursued a more stable path, enrolling in Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics.

Emigration to the United States

In 1979, Belenkiy immigrated to the United States with his wife. Seeking new opportunities, he enrolled in programming courses and began a successful career in the field. For 15 years, he worked at the World Trade Center, later becoming a consultant for major corporations.

Venturing into Film and Video

In 1991, Belenkiy's interests shifted towards the film and video industry. He began distributing Russian films in America, a venture that quickly consumed his attention. In 1995, he established "Boris Production," a retail store that continues to operate today.

Art Collector and Museum Director

Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Belenkiy frequently visited Russia, purchasing paintings and developing relationships with artists. His hobby gradually evolved into a serious art collection, focused primarily on contemporary Russian artists.

In the mid-1990s, Belenkiy joined the board of directors of the Museum of Unofficial Russian Art in Jersey City. Together with other enthusiasts, he spearheaded a revitalization effort, renovating the building and curating successful exhibitions.

Bookseller and Medal CollectorJust as his passion for art had transformed into a business, Belenkiy's lifelong love of literature found expression in bookselling. His bookstore specializes in memoirs, Silver Age writers, and dissident literature.

In addition to paintings, Belenkiy has also amassed a significant collection of medals. He brings his expertise to both his art and book collections, enriching the lives of those who engage with his endeavors.
