Early Life and Education

Borys Petrov was born on October 1, 1953, in the city of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. He pursued a career in engineering, graduating from the Zaporizhzhia Machine-Building Institute with a degree in Industrial Transport Engineering and later obtaining an economics degree from the Zaporizhzhia State Engineering Academy.

Career in Industry and Transport

1974-1979: Railway Operations

Petrov began his career in the railway industry, working as an engineer-technologist, wagon coupler, dispatcher, safety inspector, and shift supervisor at the Zaporizhzhia Ferroalloy Plant.

1979-1997: Transport Management

He was promoted to Deputy Head and later Head of the Transport Department at the plant. Petrov also held various commercial positions, including Deputy Director and Commercial Director.

1997-2006: CEO of Ukrgrafit

In 1997, Petrov was appointed CEO of Ukrgrafit, a major Ukrainian graphite producer. He led the company for nearly a decade, overseeing its operations and expansion.

Local Politics
2002: Candidate for Ukrainian Parliament

In 2002, Petrov ran for a seat in the Ukrainian Parliament as a member of the "For a United Ukraine!" bloc.

2002-2006: Member of Zaporizhzhia Regional Council

He subsequently became a member of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council, serving from April 2002 to April 2006.

National Politics

2006-2011: Member of Ukrainian Parliament

Petrov was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament as a member of the Party of Regions in 2006. He served in the 5th and 6th convocations, representing Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Governor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast

2010-2011: Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration

In March 2010, Petrov was appointed Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration. He held this position until October 2011, when he was dismissed by President Viktor Yanukovych.

Personal Life

Borys Petrov is married to Elena Viktorovna (born 1969). They have two children: Roman (born 1975) and Yelizaveta (born 1998).
