Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu: President of Kosovo

Early Life and Education

Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu was born on May 17, 1982, in Kosovska Mitrovica. She earned a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Prishtina and went on to receive an LLM degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. In 2015, she completed her Doctor of Juridical Science degree (J.S.D.) at the same university.

Academic Career

Osmani-Sadriu has held teaching and research positions at the University of Prishtina, Rochester Institute of Technology in Kosovo, and the University of Pittsburgh. She has published extensively in the fields of international and commercial law.

Political Activities

Osmani-Sadriu entered politics in 2010 when she was elected to the Parliament of Kosovo. She served as the Speaker of the Parliament from 2020 to 2021, becoming the first woman to hold this position. In 2021, she founded the "Guxo" party.

Presidency of Kosovo

On April 4, 2021, Osmani-Sadriu was elected President of Kosovo with 70 votes in Parliament. She is the second female president of the country after Atifete Jahjaga. As president, she has focused on strengthening the rule of law, promoting economic development, and advancing Kosovo's integration into the international community.

Additional Roles and Awards

Osmani-Sadriu has held various positions in the Kosovo government, including Chief of Staff, Foreign Policy Advisor, and Legal Advisor to the President. She also served as a member of the legal team at the International Court of Justice in The Hague during the proceedings on the legality of Kosovo's declaration of independence.

She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to the field of law and human rights, including the University of Pittsburgh's Sheth International Achievement Award.

Personal Life

Osmani-Sadriu is married to Prindon Sadriu and is the mother of twins, Dua and Anda.
