Early Life and CareerBrad Dexter, born Boris Michel Soso, was born in Goldfield, Nevada to Serbian immigrants. After failing to pursue a career in boxing, he turned to acting, studying at the Pasadena Playhouse. During World War II, Dexter joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and made his film debut in "Winged Victory" under the pseudonym Barry Mitchell.
Rise to Stardom
Dexter's background in boxing led him to a career as a stuntman in Hollywood. However, his acting talent soon earned him recognition. He starred in notable films such as "Heldorado," "The Asphalt Jungle," and "Sinbad the Sailor." Dexter also appeared in numerous television series, including "General Electric Theater" and "Climax!"
Breakthrough Role
In 1959, Dexter landed a pivotal role in John Sturges' western "Last Train from Gun Hill" alongside Kirk Douglas. However, it was his portrayal of Harry Luck in Sturges' 1960 classic "The Magnificent Seven" that cemented his status as an acclaimed actor. The film became a box office success, even in the Soviet Union.
Friendship with Frank Sinatra
Dexter's friendship with Frank Sinatra began during a film shoot in Hawaii. When Sinatra fell into the ocean, Dexter risked his life to rescue him. This act earned Dexter the Red Cross Medal. The two actors subsequently collaborated on several films.
Later Career
