Biography of Brad Snyder

Brad Snyder was born on February 29, 1984, in Reno, Nevada. He moved to Florida with his family, where he started swimming seriously while in school. After graduating, he attended the United States Naval Academy, where he continued his passion for swimming and eventually became the captain of the swim team.

In 2011, Brad was deployed to Afghanistan as a part of the United States Navy. During his service, he was injured by shrapnel from an improvised explosive device while helping evacuate his friends and civilians. As a result of the injury, Brad lost his vision completely and was sent back home for rehabilitation and to adjust to his new life away from the war.

Despite the challenges he faced, Brad started swimming as a form of therapy. Within just three years, he became a world record holder and one of the most successful blind swimmers of modern times. Brad's determination and resilience proved that a truly strong individual cannot be broken or forced to accept an undesired fate.

During his rehabilitation process, Brad had to relearn even the simplest tasks. However, swimming was the one activity that did not require significant effort. He quickly regained his physical form and decided to participate in competitions as soon as possible. In his first tournament, the Warrior Games, Brad won four gold medals in swimming and three awards in track and field events.

In 2012, Brad set a world record in the 400-meter distance during the Paralympic swimming trials, earning him a spot on the national team and the opportunity to compete in the Paralympic Games in London. Just a year after his injury in Afghanistan, Brad won his first gold medal at the Paralympic Games. He went on to win more gold and silver medals and set records in the 100-meter and 50-meter distances.

Brad's achievements brought him global recognition, and he felt compelled to do something for the millions of blind individuals around the world. Understanding the challenges of living without vision, he came up with the idea for "The Bradley" wristwatches designed specifically for blind people. The project was launched on Kickstarter.com, a crowdfunding platform, with a goal of raising $40,000. Within a few weeks, the creators received more than $500,000 from people all over the world.
