Bret Erickson: A Veteran Sharpshooter with Olympic Dreams

Born on September 26th, 1960, in Nebraska, Bret Erickson's journey in marksmanship began at the tender age of ten, following the footsteps of his father and brother. Today, his son has also proven himself to be an exceptional shooter.

Military Service and Competitions

Erickson graduated from Midland College in 1982 and later served in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU). Upon leaving the military, he embarked on a remarkable competitive career, participating in the World Championships World, Clay Target Championships, Olympic Games (1992, 1996, 2004), Pan American Games, and U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Shooting.

Challenges and Triumphs

Erickson's career has not been without its challenges. Despite losing his father during a 1998 competition, he showed incredible resilience and continued to compete. From 1999 to 2001, he faced a period of adversity but ultimately returned to the sport, achieving significant victories.

Olympic Aspirations

The 2008 Olympics marks Erickson's fourth attempt at the global stage. A highly motivated competitor, he is determined to prove his exceptional shooting skills and earn an Olympic medal. Although he has not yet secured an Olympic podium finish, Erickson remains optimistic about his chances in Beijing.

Coaching and Training

Erickson currently dedicates a significant portion of his time to training and coaching junior shooters at Wallawalla Creek Shooting Center. Throughout his career, he has faced numerous obstacles, but his unwavering commitment to his craft and mentorship of young shooters has ultimately shaped his legacy as a respected veteran in the world of marksmanship.
