Early Life and Education

Brian Eno, born on May 15, 1948, in Woodbridge, Suffolk, UK, attended St. Joseph's College until the age of 16. He then enrolled in Ipswich School of Art, where he discovered his passion for creative expression. Influenced by artist and musician Tom Phillips and avant-garde composer Cornelius Cardew, Eno's musical experimentation began.

Musical Beginnings: Maxwell Demon

In 1965, Eno moved to Winchester School of Art, where he formed the band "Maxwell Demon" with Anthony Grafton. Their Christmas recording, "Ellis B. Compton Blues," remains Eno's only known song from this period.

Collaboration with Soviet Musicians

In 1987, Eno traveled to the USSR to collaborate with the group "Sounds of Mu," producing their self-titled album. He became acquainted with Russian theremin musicians Mikhail Malinin and Lydia Kavina, and incorporated their compositions into his 1989 album "Music For Films 3."

Petersburg Connection and Cultural Impact

Eno's involvement with Russian artists continued in the 1990s. He dedicated his album "The Shutov Assembly" to Moscow artist Sergei Shutov and lived in St. Petersburg in 1997. There, he interacted with the "New Composers" group and provided technical support for "Nozh dlya Frau Muller." In 2010, he delivered a lecture at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and presented his "77 Million Paintings" project.

Pioneer of Ambient Music

Eno is widely regarded as the pioneer of ambient music. His 1978 album, "Ambient 1: Music for Airports," was critically acclaimed as a defining work of the genre. It remains one of the most influential ambient albums of all time, according to critics.
