Blessed Br. Bruno

Blessed Br. Bruno is recognized as one of the 108 Blessed Polish Martyrs, beatified by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Warsaw on June 13, 1999.

Early Life

Born into the world, Br. Bruno later joined the Franciscan Order in 1922, taking the monastic name Br. Bruno. He served in monasteries in Przemyśl, Kraków, and Lwów. On March 6, 1932, he made his monastic vows, committing himself to the Franciscan way of life.

Ministry and Imprisonment

From 1933, Br. Bruno worked at the monastery in Chełm. However, tragedy struck in 1939 when German authorities arrested him along with other monks from the monastery. He was initially held captive in Lublin Castle before being transported to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

Martyrdom and Beatification

Subsequently, Br. Bruno was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp, where he suffered and ultimately met his demise on August 21, 1942. Pope John Paul II recognized his heroic sacrifice, beatifying him on June 13, 1999, alongside other Polish martyrs who had perished during World War II. His feast day is observed on June 12.
