Early Life and Education

Born into the family of composer Ahmet Zhubanov, Buлат Serikbayevich Zhubanov emerged as a prominent chemist. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology in 1952 and pursued postgraduate studies at the same institution, completing them in 1955.

Academic and Research Career

Zhubanov embarked on his academic career as a junior and senior research associate at the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Academy of Sciences from 1956 to 1968. In 1968, he became the director of this institute. From 1972, he served as the academic secretary of the Department of Chemical and Technological Sciences.

Under Zhubanov's leadership, the theory of polycondensation processes advanced significantly, leading to the creation of new термо- and огнестойких (fire-resistant) polymers. His research team discovered methods to control polycondensation reactions, enabling the production of polymers with specific properties for various industrial applications. Today, innovative technologies for synthesizing fire-resistant polymer-based drugs with prolonged action are being implemented.

Publications and Impact

Zhubanov authored an impressive body of work, including 8 monographs, over 600 scientific articles, and more than 200 patents and copyright certificates. His contributions to chemistry earned him national and international recognition.

Awards and Honors

Zhubanov's exceptional achievements were recognized with the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR. He was also elected a full member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1995.

Family Legacy

Zhubanov was married to Zarya Galimovna Zhubanova (Kudaykulova), an economist. Their daughter, Sholpan, is a renowned pianist and the mother of renowned conductor Alan Buribaev. Their son, Turar, is also a chemist and has worked in marketing since 1993.
