Buranovo Grannies: From Udmurt Village to Eurovision Stage
Origins in the Udmurt CountrysideEstablished over 40 years ago in the village of Buranovo, Udmurtia, the Buranovo Grannies emerged as a unique folkloric collective. They gained prominence for their innovative renditions of popular hits in the Udmurt language, capturing the attention of the Russian and international press.
Debut on the Eurovision Stage
In 2008, the grannies made their mark on the Udmurt Philharmonic stage with Udmurt-language adaptations of iconic songs by Boris Grebenshchikov and Viktor Tsoi. Their captivating performances garnered widespread acclaim and media attention.
Eurovision Success
The Buranovo Grannies' Eurovision journey began with their participation in the Russian national selection for Eurovision 2010, where they placed third with their song "Dlinnaya-dlinnaya beresta i kak sdelat iz nee ayshon." In 2012, they triumphed in the Russian selection with "Party for Everybody," earning the honor of representing Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku.
