Soviet and Tajik Statesman, Kadriddin Aslonov
Born in the Garm district of Tajikistan on May 29, 1947, Kadriddin Aslonov played a significant role in the political landscape of Soviet and independent Tajikistan.
Education and Early Career
Aslonov graduated from the Tajik Agricultural Institute in 1969 and later the Academy of Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1989. He began his career as a workshop manager and served as a brigade mechanic on a collective farm from 1969 to 1973.
Rise through the Political Ranks
In 1983, Aslonov became the First Secretary of the Pyandzh District Committee of the Tajik Communist Party. He subsequently served as First Deputy Chairman of the State Agro-Industrial Committee of Tajikistan from 1988 to 1989.
From 1989 to 1990, Aslonov ascended to the position of Secretary of the Central Committee of the Tajik Communist Party. He became the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Tajikistan in 1990 and Chairman on November 30, 1990.
Controversial Leadership
During his tenure as Chairman of the Supreme Soviet, Aslonov issued a decree banning the Republican Communist Party and nationalizing its property. This act sparked protests from party supporters.
In September 1991, Aslonov signed decrees ordering the demolition of the Lenin monument in Dushanbe and the arrest of Communist Party officials. A special session of the Supreme Soviet was held to address Aslonov's actions, and he was accused of violating the law. Subsequently, he resigned from his post.
Later Career and Assassination
Aslonov later served as Chairman of the Kurgan-Tyube Regional Executive Committee. He signed the historic Declaration of Independence of Tajikistan in 1991.
Tragically, Kadriddin Aslonov was assassinated by Sangak Safarov in November 1992. The exact date of his death remains unknown. He was laid to rest in the Sarband district of Tajikistan.
Legacy
Aslonov's contributions to Tajikistan include his role in the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Despite his controversial actions as Chairman of the Supreme Soviet, he played a pivotal role in shaping the country's political landscape during a turbulent period.
